RV Carports are becoming a very popular alternative to paying to store your RV over the winters months or otherwise when it is not in use. There are very few people that would allow their expensive RV to be exposed to the elements these days. Even those that do decide to leave their RVs unprotected usually fasten tarps over the top to protect the hutches and hardware on the found on the top of the RV. If planned appropriately, you might recoup the cost of building the RV carports by the savings you incur by not having to pay someone to store your RV.

There are pros and cons to buildings RV Carports. I will outline a few of them below.

1. The initial cost of building the RV carport. Although by saving storage costs you might save money over the life of your RV there is a significant cost incurred in building the carport. If you live in a area that experiences significant freezing the cost will be even more as you will need to pour cement footers.

3. Aesthetics. Although those of us in the RV crowd love out RVs we might not want to see them all the time. These super large carports could be considered a bit of an eye sore. If not an eye sore to you and your family they might be an eye sore to your neighbors. Take an honest look at your house. Would the resale value of the house be hurt by the building of such a structure. Remember the next owners might not RV. If in doubt ask your neighbors what they think.

4. Increase in property taxes. As with any improvement or addition to your house, the addition of a carport will undoubtedly increase your annual property taxes. Ask at your town hall for an estimate of the increase. It may be little or it may be to big for you to consider.
